Competence Check at VFS Global
You completed your education in one of the following countries:
- Bangladesh
- India
- Pakistan
You must complete a skills assessment via the Competence Check of VFS Global before you can apply to the University of Graz.
Before registering for the Competence Check, please familiarise yourself with the admission requirements. The Competence Check is only worthwhile if you meet all the requirements.
General admission requirements
Please also note the required legalization and language proficiency certificates.
These requirements must be met by ALL applicants.
If you are unsure which degree programme you would like to study and what the entry requirements are (e.g. what is the language of instruction? Is the programme subject to restricted admission? etc.), please contact the 4students Student Counselling Service.
Specific requirements
Your application can be processed if you hold the following bachelor’s degree:
- a bachelor’s degree programme with a minimum duration of at least four years (full-time) at a recognised university AND
- your university is classified as Section 1 AND
you have achieved a CGPA of 3.75 (out of 4.0) or 80% during your studies
Each application must be assessed individually. Meeting these requirements and passing the VFS Global Competence Check do not guarantee admission to the University of Graz!
Your application can be processed if you hold the following bachelor’s degree:
- you have completed a bachelor’s degree programme with a minimum duration of at least three years (full-time) at a recognised university in India AND
- your university is classified as Section 1 or 2 AND
you have achieved at least 60% in your studies.
Each application must be assessed individually. Meeting these requirements and passing the VFS Global Competence Check do not guarantee admission to the University of Graz!
Your application can be processed if you hold the following bachelor’s degree:
- you have completed a bachelor’s degree programme with a minimum duration of at least four years (full-time) at a recognised university in Pakistan AND
- your university is classified as Section 1 or 2 AND
- you have achieved at least 80% (CGPA of 3,5) during your studies.
Each application must be assessed individually. Meeting these requirements and passing the VFS Global Competence Check do not guarantee admission to the University of Graz!

The VFS Global Competence Check...
- …takes place in person at VFS Global’s offices.
- …is mandatory for all prospective students who have completed their previous education in Bangladesh, India or Pakistan and wish to commence a Bachelor’s, Diploma or Master’s degree programme at the University of Graz
- …does not replace the formal and content assessment of your application
- …does not replace the additional admission procedure for restricted degree programmes at the University of Graz
- …does not replace supplementary examinations
- …is an aptitude assessment that forms only part of a complete application
All content and formal requirements necessary for admission to the degree programme must be met. The Competence Check is only one part of this and does not guarantee admission to the University of Graz.
Do you meet the entry requirements? If so, book an appointment for the Competence Check with VFS Global and pay the fee of around 100 euros directly to VFS Global.
When booking your appointment, please specify which Austrian university you wish to study at and which degree programme you are interested in.

Please ensure that you have received your VFS Global result BEFORE submitting your application to the University of Graz.
Applications without a positive VFS Global result cannot be processed.
You should therefore plan your Competence Check in good time.
VFS Global will check the following during your in-person appointment:
- Your identity (passport)
- Your documents (depending on your chosen course)
- Your general knowledge in the following areas
- German (for German-language courses)
- English
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- History/Geography
- Physics
You must achieve at least 50% of the maximum marks in the VFS Global Competence Check. If you do not achieve this, you will not be eligible for admission under any circumstances.
Applying to the University of Graz
Please ensure that you
- have all the necessary educational documents
- these documents have been sufficiently legalized
- all documents that are not in German or English have been translated into German or English by a sworn translator
- you have the required proof of language proficiency
- you meet the specific admission requirements for your country of study
- you have passed the VFS Global Competency Check
Do you have all of this? Excellent!
You can then upload these documents to the University of Graz’s online application portal during the submission period.
The University of Graz will then review your documents and the result of your VFS Global Competence Check. This may take several weeks to months. You will be notified by email as soon as the review has been completed.
If you are admitted, you will receive notification of your admission at the email address provided in the University of Graz application portal.
